How to configure TL-PS310U to print by queue Suitable for : PS-310U
Generally, when using the print server TL-PS310U, you have to run a utility named Launch MFP and Storage Server.exe then search for the print server and printer or other USB devices. The utility is easy to use, but there are some limitations. For example, if two people want to use the printer on the TL-PS310U at the same time. If person A has taken control of the printer, person B won¡¯t be able to connect to the printer until it is released by person A. What this means is that only one person can use the printer at any one time, releasing the device will allow a new user to control the device. This limit is caused by the Virtual USB technique, which supplies the support for MFP and general USB devices. There is however another way to configure the TL-PS310U to print by queue (or LPR print). Using this method you do not need to wait for the printer to be released, if the printer is busy when the print job is established it will simply wait and print by queue. Important Notes: 1. If the USB device is simply just a printer (not a MFP), please use the print by queue function and do not run the utility. If someone takes control of the printer with the utility while others have the printer setup for queue printing, it will not allow those users to print through the printer queue as the utility will take full control over the item until it is released again. 2. If the USB device is a MFP printer, you can continue to use the print by queue function, but if you want to use other functions of the MFP such as scanning, you will have to run the utility and connect to the MFP. As previously mentioned when using the utility to take control of the MFP for extended functionality, other users can not print by queue until the MFP is released in the utility. 3. If there are other USB devices attached to the TL-PS310U, you will need to continue using the utility to access those devices as normal, one by one. This will not affect printing by queue. To help clarify, printing by queue is for printer or printing function of MFP devices, for other functions of MFP and other USB devices you will still need to use the utility to connect and release the devices as normal. How to configure the TL-PS310U to work by print queue. Method 1: Download the software Network Printer Wizard to help configure the device. You should follow the guide included with the software to configure appropriate settings. Method 2: To configure the device in Windows manually, you need to install the printer¡¯s driver and add a standard TCP/IP port for the printer in Windows. This setup is similar to the general setup of any print server that supports LPR. As a reference included below are basic screenshots for the setup in Windows XP (All included images/details are for reference purposes only, and should not be directly copied):
On the following page you will need to enter the IP address of the TL-PS310U in the field Printer Name or IP Address. The Port Name will fill automatically once the previous step has been done.
The Queue Name can be obtained from within the utility. Right click on the printer name and then click the Details button.
Install the Printer Driver Finish installing the printer driver. If Windows has not got the appropriate driver, please click the Have Disk button and install the driver from the CD included with the printer or relevant printer driver source.
Once the printer driver has been installed, you should have added a standard TCP/IP port for LPR and printing by queue should be operational. |
